Product Description
These knives feature 5160 steel and black texture powder coated blades. 5160 Steel is popular now for a variety of knife styles, but usually bigger blades that need more toughness. It is essentially a simple spring steel with chromium added for hardenability. It has good wear resistance, but is known especially for its outstanding toughness. This steel performs well over a wide range of hardnesses, showing great toughness when hardened in the low 50s Rc for swords, and hardened up near the 60s for knives needing more edge holding

PROS:
The knife is well made and has the qualities I demand in a wilderness knife. A full 1/4" inch thick high carbon steel and flat grind. The drop point is usefull for piercing as well as drilling sockets for a fire bow. The blade being thick and 7 1/2" long makes for easy shelterbuilding and fire prep (batonning and chopping).
While I am not looking for "tactical knife" I like the powder coating, IMO it should help keep the blade free from rust and corrosion. The blade has an ok edge a little on the coarse side, but a quick pass over wet stones cleans that up and with very little effort produced a wicked sharp edge.
CONS:
The sheath as others have commented elsewhere this is a weak link from Ontario Knives, but I bought the knife not a sheath besides I can make a sheath I like, 'nuff said.
The handle needs profiling for a better, more comfortable fit. The slabs are wide and thick, it has to be thick with a 0.25 thick blade. I have large hands and it is a bit unfortable for me. A little more rounding in the belly and some choil in the sides and it is like night and day.
SUMMARY:
This is a keeper for anyone who enjoys the challenges of bushcraft and self reliance especially for the price. Pair this with your favorite 3" to 4" blade,(I also carry 4" fillet knife) and you have a winning team in any neck of the woods or on the back waters.
