Tops Knives Machete .230 Model MAC-230 Review

An excellent machete, very well designed. It goes through the thicket with great results. It works great for batoning, though if you can get the wood to stand up straight, you could probably chop straight through. The edge is not TOPS usual design, which is why is works. TOPS knives usually have very obtuse edges which need to be ground back a few degrees in order to be useful. Here is where the catch comes in: the machete was designed by machete freak Joe Flowers, of Condor Tool and Knife, in collaberation with Leo Espinoza of TOPS. Lord knows what Joe had to go through to get TOPS to thin out the blade, which is 1/8" (0.125"), a little thick for a machete, but still very lively and able to flex well. I wouldn't call the edge full convex, but it bites like it. The long handle allows you to choke up with your grip or even use two hands if you feel the need. Three laynard holes allow for multiple securing options. The sheath is NIIIIIIICE, with two pockets for extras. Only problem with the sheath is there's no snap to hold in the blade. And at around $80-$100 dollars, it comes with an unusually fair price, another departure for TOPS. This will definitly serve you well in the bush. Happy trails.
