Deuter Fox 30 (Fire/Cranberry) Review

I ordered this pack for my 6 year old. It is the only kids internal pack that adjusts down for very small kids. He found it quite comfortable though he could only carry his sleeping bag and water on our first 10 mile backpacking trip. It adjusts as the child grows. It does have what appears to be very thin sheet metal supports sewn up internally in addition to the foam pads. Despite what the earlier reviewer said, this pack definitely qualifies as an internal frame pack. Now that my 2nd oldest is six, I plan on purchasing another one. I thought about getting an Osprey for my oldest and passing down this Fox 30, but the Fox 30 still fits and adjusts to his body far better than the Osprey Jib. This is a durable, versatile pack for kids, and I highly recommend it if you take young kids backpacking, though one would ideally want to get it fit in person. It is so nice to let kids carry at least their sleeping bags and a water bottle. It gives them a sense of responsibility and is good preparation for when they are older and can carry all their own gear.
