Torker Unistar CX Unicycle - 16", Red Review
As a 40-something year old former unicycler, I wanted to purchase a smaller version to fit my 9 year old son. He'd recently discovered my classic twenty inch tall unicycle stored in the garage and had made several tries at balancing. But try as he might, the classic beast was just too tall for his wee little legs. I needed to get him a vehicle which he could be successful at ... Enter the Torker CX-16.My son vibrated with excitement as we unpacked the box together and started to put together his sweet looking, shiny new red unicycle. Assembly was fairly easy. But as a note of advice, a 15 mm combination wrench and several sizes of metric hex wrenches are not included in the box, but are needed to complete the job. The package did contain all parts and directions, and even added some red touch-up paint to fix the dings after the inevitable crashes - nice touch.
After letting my son try it out for a few days (and wipe out over and over again), it appears to be pretty solidly built machine, and is able to take a beating. In my opinion, the only weakness I found is the quick release mechanism on the seat post. It is very difficult to get enough torque on that sucker to stay solid through repeated crashes to the pavement. It's easy enough to turn the seat back straight again after a fall, but I think they tried to over engineer this part when it wasn't warranted. An old fashioned nut, bolt, and collar piece would have done the job.
All and all, I am quite happy with this unicycle. It was a little more expensive than the other entry models, but the quality seems to be better than average. By the looks of it, it should be able to take a beating for years.
