First of all, these have turned into the GP5 grips which are apparently slightly different but more or less as pictured. I got that said newer version/model and all I can say is they ARE as awesome as they look, MORE comfortable than you hope they are, and the whole cork thing is not as brittle as you're fearing it is. The ends are adjustable in angle as well as the grip itself, the ends can be swapped out to shorter ones. Really this is the most customizable grip you can get. So make sure you visit the ergon site as they have a lot of helpful info on all the different models and options available as well proper size and fitment for your hand, bike setup, intended use and so on. So first off the box itself was even super we'll thought out, they took the whole recycled save the world stuff to the extreme with 100% recycled paper and printed with soy oil ink... Yeah, you read that right. Anyway, the grips themselves don't look as nerdy as you may think in cork, as they're actually more like rubber impregnated with cork. Which is nice because it makes it squishy from the rubber and if it was all cork it would break apart. They look kinda cool but if the brown color scares you away you can always go with the black plastic version. However, if you'd like to know why the cork model may or may not be for you I've found that it is very soft and really helps on those long distances and even really rough roads that we suffer from here in Houston. The inside of the grip is some sort of plastic tube so that they can fit over the handlebar and rotate freely, it's that end piece on all the ergon grips that actually locks on to your handle bars and the grip simultaneously. So your brakes and shifters may need to be moved to make room. Again, check to make sure you get the right size and shifter style, there's a lot of different versions even within the same model. Wish I knew about these sooner, get some you won't be disappointed and they can be used for all types of bike and riding style.
